The Expedia global hotel product numbers more than 100,000, including an extensive choice of one to five star properties, individual guest houses and bed and breakfasts. TBO’s is used by over 4,000 travel agents across 130 cities in India. Accor partners with Travel Boutique Online to strengthen distribution worldwide

ACCOR, the world’s leading hotel operator, has signed an agreement with India’s largest B2B travel portal Travel Boutique Online (TBO) to strengthen its distribution globally.



TBO will be responsible for increasing sales of Accor Hotels across its network of over 13,000 Travel Agents across 300 cities in India and 4000 agents in Middle East and Africa. “This strategic integration compliments Accor’s own worldwide booking portal, Accorhotels.com, by reaching the TBO agency network through their B2B portals travelboutiqueonline.com and tboholidays.com.”
Accor is keen to further develop domestic sales in India to accompany the development target of opening 50 hotels by 2015 in the country.

This connectivity will integrate Accor hotels worldwide to TBO websites, so that the global Accor network can benefit from the ever-growing outbound market of travellers from India. The association with TBO will augment and enhance Accor’s sales and distribution team already present in India & globally.

MIH Group acquires 51% stake in Tek Travels

MIH Group, a subsidiary of South African media conglomerate Naspers and owner of social networking site Ibibo, has acquired a 51% stake in Gurgaon-based travel company Tek Travels, which owns B2B travel portal Travel Boutique Online.



Ankush Nijhawan, co-founder and CEO of Travel Boutique Online, confirmed the acquisition but declined to comment on the financial details of the transaction. But a senior executive within the travel industry, who is familiar with the development, estimated the value of the deal at tens of crore.

"This is a strategic partnership between MIH Group and Travel Boutique Online," said Nijhawan who, along with IIT alumnus Gaurav Bhatnagar, founded Travel Boutique Online in 2006. The two will continue to run the company along with the entire management after the acquisition. "While MIH will gain footprint in the domestic online business travel space, we will be able to tap international markets," he observed.

Travel Boutique Online offers a gamut of travel services such as airline, train and hotel reservation and holiday package deals. It also provides charter and choppers and helps with car rental, bus bookings and travel insurance. Its revenues stand at 90-110 crore.

MIH runs businesses in internet platforms, pay-television and related technologies. In India, it has an active presence in the e-commerce space through internet assets such as ibibo Games (social games), Goibibo.com (travel), Tradus.in (shopping marketplace), Payu.in (payments) and Gaadi.com (auto classifieds). Besides, it also has a majority interest in a fast growing online travel portal, Goibibo.com.

Last year, MIH Group bought a majority stake in the privately-held Gaadi Web, which runs Gaadi.com that helps users buy and sell new and used cars.

The current acquisition signals a rapid evolution of the country's travel industry which is poised for strong growth as well as consolidation. In a market that is largely fragmented with almost 85% dominated by small, unorganised or regional players, travel companies are using an inorganic growth strategy to grab a bigger market share and expand faster.

NASDAQ-listed travel services provider MakeMyTrip is reportedly scouting for possible acquisition targets. Last year, it acquired stakes in Le Travenues Technology, which operates www.Ixigo.Com, Singapore-based Luxury Tours & Travel and My Guest House Accommodations.
